'We're not beginning ...to ... to ... mean something? Mean something? You and I mean something?'
Samuel Beckett, Endgame, 1957
Welcome to the online home of Broken Sword Productions Ltd. Here you can find the latest details on up and coming productions both for stage and screen*. Our most recent productions include The Life and Death of a Mime, for film, and The Broken Swords do The Fratellis, for the stage. As ever our 'Breaking News' section (below), offers the very latest information. Established in 2002 Broken Swords has gone from lower line Drama Club to full scale amateur production company. The name of the company was chosen after a freak accident with a sword during one of our earliest performances, where the prop broke, shattered, and very nearly destroyed the entire lighting rig. Nevertheless the audience loved it, and the name has stuck ever since. If you would like to find out more about the history of our company, please take a moment to read the rather tongue-in-cheek account entitled 'Trodden Boards' penned by site-editor Joshua Elliott. *All our films are hosted on YouTube and can be watched by clicking here.
Broken Swords would like to formally introduce their two newest members: Tom Dixon and Nick Travers - both who have secured roles in the up-and-coming Mikado. This is part of a move to secure Broken Swords' future at Wimbledon College, and joins the two other recent sign ons Ed Corrigan and Ollie Bishop. As for the realm of film - we can now formally announce the undertaking of three exciting new projects: firstly - Disturbance which shall be written and directed by Marcello Gibezzi & James Humphrey as part of their film studies course; secondly - Drake Watt and the Hamsters from Space written by Joshua Elliott & George Watson, rumoured to feature hamsters...from space, cast have yet to be formally approached (parts are up for grabs!); and finally - a THIRD (and final - I promise) Life and Death film is in the scripting process - to be titled The Clown, the Mime, and the Boy Out of Time - filming will begin during the summer of next year. All titles subject to change.
The start of the new term has seen the start of three brand new theatrical productions. The first of which saw the Broken Swords perform a couple of short sketches based around music by The Fratellis. Performed to a small private audience the mini production was a big success introducing the Swords’ two newest members Edward Corrigan and Olly Bishop. It was also confirmed at the event that the team would be beginning production on the popular Greek tragedy Trojan Women, with a production scale to rival that of Wimbledon College’s 2008 school play The Mikado (which features both James Humphrey and Aleksander Hancock as principals). A further two episodes have been completed of the second unofficial series of Doctor Who, and the first screening of The Life and Death of a Mime will be on the first week after half term, around the date of Halloween. Tickets will cost £1 each, with all proceeds going to Crisis, refreshments will be provided. For earlier news please click here.
